Venus Williams published photos from a retrospective in honor of the 30th anniversary of her debut

Time really does fly.

Venus Williams posted photos on social media on Thursday to celebrate the 30th anniversary of her professional tennis debut on Oct. 31, 1994, when she was 14 years old.

Williams’ first professional tournament was the Silicon Valley Classic in Oakland, California. She started her tennis career strong, defeating former NCAA singles champion Sean Stafford in straight sets.

Photos posted by Williams show her participating in the match and signing autographs afterward. This 14-year-old girl had no idea what would happen to her tennis career back then.

Since Williams’ debut, she has won seven major titles, four Olympic gold medals and 14 major doubles titles, and has become world number one. She has won 49 WTA singles titles and 22 WTA doubles titles.

And Williams’ professional career isn’t over yet. Although the 44-year-old has not competed since the Miami Open in March, Williams has not yet officially retired from tennis. Her younger sister Serena Williams retired from the sport after the 2022 US Open.
